How to Make a Mudroom Hall Tree

Free PDF Plans Available!

This hall tree provides great storage for a laundry or mudroom.  It has a drawer under the bench, coat hooks, and upper cabinets for extra storage!

01

Dimension Your Boards

The majority of this hall tree is built from 3/4" plywood.  The bench top is made from cedar wood. Follow the provided cut list in the plans to dimension all of the boards for the hall tree

02

Build the Lower Drawer

After building the drawer box, install the drawer slides using the Milescraft DrawerJig.  This jig makes installing drawers simple, easy, and accurate.

03

Add the Bench Top

Assemble the top of the bench for seating.  Stain it with your stain of choice and seal it with a polyurethane.

04

Build the Frame for the Upper Cabinet

Using the provided plans, assemble the upper portion of the hall tree.  This will be for the coat hooks and adjustable shelves.

05

Build the Cabinet Doors and Install the Shelf Pins

Use the Milescraft EuroHinge Jig to install the concealed hinges for the cabinet doors.  Use the CabinetMate to install the shelf pins for the adjustable shelf.

06

Apply Wood Filler, Primer, Paint, and Sealer

Be sure to prime the piece so that the finish will last a long time.  See accompanying blog post for all of the paint products I used!
