How to Route a Cutting Board  Finger Groove Handle

A Step by Step Guide

This method of adding handles to your cutting board is a great way to upgrade the boards you make.  It's a simple process when you have the correct tools!

01

Gather your Materials

– Router – Chamfer Bit – Cutting Board – Clamps – Combination square

02

Insert the Router Bit and Set the Depth

Insert the chamfer router bit into the router. Set the depth so that the bearing will run along the bottom side of the cutting board when the board is flipped upside down.

03

Mark the Board

Prominently mark equal parts on both sides of the board.  This is where the router bit will start and stop, so make sure you can clearly see it.

04

Route the Handles

Keeping your router face plate flush on the board, route the handle from one mark that you added to the other.
